LEAP Speed Profiling: Q&As with Charity Bass

by: in LEAP

To help provide the readers of our blog with a better sense of the kind of quality people we have working here at LEAP, here's another installment of the LEAP Speed Profile.  We recently sat down with Charity Bass, one of LEAP's crack team of copywriters.  Our conversation uncovered Charity's tendency to watch a specific TV show as if she were a member of the geriatric set, what new piece of technology has changed her life,  and how she forgave her future husband for a questionable choice for movie night.

What is it you do exactly?: I write copy, do creative concepting for client projects, and write headlines.

What's the best part about what you do?: Trying to say something profound in as few words as possible.

What's the one thing someone needs to know about you to get an idea about who you are?: I have a pretty dry sense of humor and I'm a little sarcastic, so you can't take anything I say too seriously.

Biggest fear: Dying alone.  How's that for morbid?

What' the one thing you can't live without?: My iPhone. It's a recent addiction. I've had it for a year, but I don't know what I did without it for the previous 24.

Favorite word: Free

Least favorite word: I hate any really trendy word that comes in, like "swagger" a couple years ago. Everything was "swagger this"and "swagger that."  I got so tired of hearing that because I really liked that word before it showed up everywhere!

Favorite weekend activity: Drinking on an outdoor patio.  Sometimes coffee, sometimes a stronger adult beverage.

Ideal job (if you weren't working for LEAP): I would love to be a writer for a TV show. A soap opera writer - that would be pretty cool. I think I could nail that job.

What social media platforms do you use and do you use them on a regular basis or just once in a while?: Facebook and Twitter are permanent tabs on my Firefox. I never close them.

How much TV do you watch on a regular basis and what do you make time for to watch?: I don't ever watch TV on a regular basis, but I DVR my favorite shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and How I Met Your Mother, then watch them when I have some down time.

Favorite breakfast cereal: Golden Grahams all day. Isn't everyone's favorite cereal Golden Grahams?

What would you like served up for your next-to-last meal?: Pizza, both for my next-to-last and last meals. Maybe deep dish one day and thin crust the other to mix it up.

Last movie you saw you wished you could have gotten your money back for: This was a few years ago, but my boyfriend dragged me to "Alien Vs. Predator" in the movie theater. Despite this lapse in good taste, I forgave him and eventually agreed to marry him, so (miraculously) it wasn't a deal-breaker.

Have you ever seen a 3D movie and if so, did it give you a headache?: I saw Avatar in 3D and I thought I was the only one in the theater who walked out kind of stumbling. So I'm choosing to no longer see movies in 3D.

Last thing you did for someone that you really didn't want to do but did anyway: Any given thing my mom asks me to do! Just kidding, Mom. Kind of.

Favorite website(s): I like Cake Wrecks. It's my favorite blog. Also anything I can thumb through and laugh at, like the FAIL blog and the Cheezburger site.

In the LEAP yearbook, what do you think you'd be voted "Most Likely" to do?: In my high school yearbook, I was elected Class Clown and I think that would probably remain true. I don't ever anticipate the tongue being removed from the cheek.

What are you obsessed with and why?: I watch Jeopardy a lot. Almost like a 75-year-old woman. I try to answer before the contestants  I get a good kick out of myself when I do.

One place you've visited that you never want to have to go back to every again: Anywhere in eastern Kentucky where I went to high school.  I've rarely gone back, and now my dad's about to move so I don't think I'll ever go back once he gets out of there.

Last online purchase: Neckties for my wedding.

Favorite candy: Shock Tarts, although now they're called Shockers, which is kind of creepy.

Last video you watched online (TV show, movie, or YouTube clip): I watched some of the Threadcakes cake decorating contest entry videos. I dig cake decorating.  I'm not very good at it but I am very enthralled with it.

What's the one piece of clothing that you refuse to get rid of?: Any T shirts I've gotten for free. I don't want to get rid of them. I probably should because I don't ever wear them.

Favorite sanitized curse word (the one you use if you are near your mom/kids/etc.): I never use those. I tend to let the real deal spill, even when it's not appropriate.

Favorite Saturday Morning cartoon of your youth: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What thing that used to be available (a food, a TV show, any product) but now isn't do you wish would come back?: The Smurf Ride at Kings Island. That is some garbage that they took that out!  I loved it.  There were animatronic Smurfs, you rode through in a boat, and it was air-conditioned. It was the best ride.
