Hoping to be a major player Michelle Obama’s federal “Let’s
Move” initiative, the Hamilton County Health Group (HCPH)
needed an extra creative boost. So when LEAP pitched a large scale,
multi-touch point, 360-degree campaign that brought the campaign to life in Cincinnati’s
Lincoln Heights neighborhood, HCPH knew they had the spark that would catch the
First Lady’s eye.
And it did.
After reading a grant LEAP helped write, Obama approved the additional federal fund-
ing for the HCPH WeTHRIVE! Campaign—an initiative that promotes healthier living,
healthier foods in schools, community gardens, and safe places to play. And we were
on our way to improving one of our own communities.
But the Problem was Invisible.
For the people of Lincoln Heights, the easiest food choice is “fast.” Corner
gas stations are grocery stores. Bus stops moonlight as playgrounds.
Riddled with unhealthy options and unsafe play areas, the community was
quickly losing ground to heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. But no one
knew it was a problem.
